Logic Pro AU phase / Gain polarity vs PHIXER continuous rotation for mono-safe bass
Logic Pro still gives you Gain Invert polarity, Phase Tick / correlation, and a stereo-to-mono bounce check. That is the stock first pass. Continuous phase rotation is a different job: leftover stereo bass that still cancels by band after Gain polarity and delay hygiene. This page is the Logic Pro AU comparison. The broader Logic map is Gain polarity / Phase Tick / mono bounce. Cousin DAW angles: FL Studio 2025 Mixer polarity and Ableton Live 12 Utility phase.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux). Amount / From / To rotate problem bands so mono fold keeps low end without flattening stereo. It is not a replacement for Gain Invert, Sample Delay, or mono bounce. Polarity and timing first.
What Logic Pro AU already does
Gain plugin polarity Invert
A 180° flip on one path. First fix for dual-mic, DI+amp, or a parallel bus that fights the dry path. If body returns immediately, stop. You do not need spectral rotation.
Phase Tick / correlation
Meters can look safe while phone fold or mono bounce still thins Mid. Use them as a hint, not the final word. Headphones still lie. See the bedroom phase FAQ.
Stereo to mono bounce (true mono audition)
Bounce a mono test or fold Stereo Out with Gain / Utility-style mono. Toggle it. That is the Logic Pro mono-check. Control Room stereo can hide cancel that bounce reveals. Broader habits: Logic Pro AU phase guide.
Where stock Gain polarity stops
- Cancel is band-specific. Lows gone, mids still wide. A single 180° flip is too blunt. Phase Tick can look fine while mono bounce still hollows bass.
- The part must stay stereo. A stereo sample, bus print, or reverb return that you cannot collapse to mono without losing the image.
- Gain Invert already tried. Polarity did not restore body. Sample Delay nudge did not either. Residual L/R spectral fight remains.
FL Studio 2025 and Ableton Live 12 users hit the same leftover after Mixer polarity / Utility Phase Invert: FL 2025 · Live 12.
Logic Pro AU decision table
| You notice… | First try (stock) | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Body returns when you Gain Invert one path | Keep the invert. Done. | Do not reach for PHIXER. |
| Phase Tick OK, mono bounce still thins | Trust bounce over meters | Re-check Stereo Out mono fold. |
| Stereo bass still hollows by band after Invert + Sample Delay | Null-test / correlation honesty | PHIXER Amount / From / To on that stereo bed. |
| Stereo Spread / widener huge in cans | Bypass the widener | Mono bounce honesty. Not a repair job. |
| Mono sample alone is dull | Tone / EQ / sample choice | Not an L/R phase job. |
Logic Pro habit (about 90 seconds)
- Stereo Out mono fold or bounce a mono test. Note what disappears (kick body, bass Mid, vocal chest).
- On dual paths: Gain Invert one side. Re-check mono bounce.
- If timing is the problem, Sample Delay nudge. Re-check.
- If a stereo bed still cancels by band, audition PHIXER AU. A/B with the plugin bypassed, still in mono.
When PHIXER helps in Logic Pro
- The clip or bus is already stereo and must stay stereo.
- Gain Invert, Sample Delay, and mono bounce hygiene are cleaned up.
- You can hear clearer mono body with PHIXER engaged and the image still usable in stereo.
- You are not using it to replace Gain Invert or to "fix" Haas / Stereo Spread width.
When NOT to use PHIXER here
- You have not mono-bounce auditioned yet.
- Gain Invert or Sample Delay already restored the fold.
- You want PHIXER as a widener or a Gain Invert clone. Wrong job.
- The path is mono and the print problem is balance or EQ.
Quick path: Logic Pro mono bounce → Gain Invert on dual paths → Sample Delay nudge → PHIXER AU only for leftover continuous L/R fights → mono bounce again before export.
